News from the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce:
COVID cases are increasing rapidly in St. Lawrence County.
As of August 16th, the Public Health Department was reporting 202 active cases, and 9 hospitalizations. Over the past week, the positive COVID-19 cases have risen to a daily average of 31 new cases per day, up from 2 new cases per day just four weeks ago. This increase equates to a 141% increase of cases in the last seven days. During this period, the county has gone from a designation of moderate to high transmission.
- The Centers for Disease Control published a Recommendation that even "If you are fully vaccinated, to maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission." This would include St. Lawrence County.
- The Recommendation also indicates that "in areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, [everyone should] consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated."
- The St. Lawrence County Department of Public Health is also recommending that ALL PERSONS regardless of vaccination status wear a mask while indoors in accordance with the CDC guidance.
